I have in the past went 11.80s with the 455 and 3.73 gears in a 4000lb car  
(with 94 pump gas)  for around $1000. on engine and drivetrain only the car 
already had a good suspension. I would go with the 455 no ifs ands or buts. 
As a matter of fact David Chase has a nice 455 Stage 1 engine here in my 
garage that he may part with complete. That will get you going in a hurry 
contact dave directly on the motor.
